TCL Roku TV Won’t Turn On – 9 Easy Fixes

Here are nine ways to fix your TCL Roku TV when it won’t turn on.

I have listed these fixes in the order of how common they are. So my advice is to go through the solutions one by one, in the order they appear below.

Let’s get started!

1. Replace the Batteries in your TCL TV Remote

If your TCL Roku TV won’t turn on, the first thing to do is check the batteries in your remote. The best way to test a battery is with a battery tester, such as this one which you can get on Amazon for less than $10:

But if you don’t have a battery tester, there’s a simple test you can perform at home.

Just drop the battery on a hard surface, on the negative end of the battery. Drop the battery from a height of a few inches. If the battery is good it will stay upright, if not, it will consistently fall over.

Here’s a video that shows you how to do this simple test.

2. Check your TCL TV’s Status Light

TCL televisions have a status light on the front panel of the TV:

Depending on the status of your TV, this light will turn on or off or blink in different ways. When your TV is turned off at the remote, the status light should display a solid white light, as in the above image.

If it doesn’t, that indicates power is not reaching your TV. And in that case, you need t proceed to the next step.

3. Check All Cord Connections

The next thing to do is check all the cords going into your TCL TV. Make sure they are pushed all the way in. To make absolutely sure, I like to pull the cords out completely and push them in again.

On a 65-inch TCL television, the power socket is located at the back of the TV on the left side, while the HDMI sockets are located at the back of the TV, on the right side, as shown below. The location of these sockets may vary, depending on what model of TCL TV you have:

4. Turn Off and Back On Using the Power Button on TV

If your TCL Roku TV won’t turn on, sometimes it’s the remote that is the problem, not the TV. To bypass the remote, try turning the TV on and off using the power button on the TV itself.

This is usually located underneath the TCL logo on the lower edge of the TV, as shown below:

However, the position of the power button varies depending on what model of TCL TV you have. On recent 65-inch TCL TVs, the power button is located behind the lower left corner of the TV, as shown below:

5. Try Another Power Outlet

When your TCL Roku TV won’t turn on it’s natural to think it’s something complicated. But it could just be a fault in the wall outlet. Try plugging your TV into a different power outlet.

6. Check the Input Source

If your TCL TV is set to the wrong input source, it can make it seem like your TV is not turning on. This was the problem I had: one of my kids had changed the input source to HDMI.

There are various external or peripheral devices that can be plugged into a smart TV and each type of device has its own input source.

So if it seems like your TV won’t turn on, check the input settings:

  • Use your remote to turn on the TV
  • Press the source button on the remote
  • Select the desired input mode, which will normally be ‘Home’

7. Power Cycle the TV

power cycle is when you turn a device off and drain any residual electricity from the device.

This is how to power cycle your TCL television:

  • Unplug the TV
  • Press the power button on your TCL TV and hold it down for one full minute.
  • Plug the TV back in

If that fixed the problem, all well and good.

If not, you need to go to the next step.

8. Hard Reset your TCL TV

If none of the above solved the problem, it’s time to do a hard reset (also known as a factory reset).

  1. Press the Home button on your remote to open the main screen.
  2. Scroll down and select Settings
  3. Press the right arrow button, scroll, and select System
  4. Press the right arrow button, scroll and select Advanced system settings
  5. Press the right arrow button, scroll and select Factory reset
  6. Press the right arrow button, scroll and select Factory reset everything
  7. To proceed with the full factory reset, enter the code listed on the screen and select OK.  A different code is generated every time you reset the TV.

In most cases, a factory reset will get your TV working again.

9. Contact TCL Support

If you have tried all these solutions and your TCL TV still won’t turn on, then it is time to call TCL Support.

In the US, you can reach TCL Support (Televisions) Monday through Friday at 1-877-300-8837. You can also email them using the form on this web page: https://support.tcl.com/contact-us

If your TCL Roku TV won’t turn on, don’t panic – chances are it is something you can fix quite easily. Here again, are the most common ways to fix the problem when your TCL TV won’t turn on:

  • Replace the batteries in your TCL TV remote
  • Check your TCL TV’s status light
  • Check all cord connections
  • Turn off and back on using the power button on TV
  • Try another power outlet
  • Check the input source
